The exhibitions are devoted to the gardens and water of al-Andalus, to the scientific progresses existing during that period, to the archaeological and artistic heritage and to the different aspects of Islam and the majority Muslim societie.

Through our different sets and environments, we invite you to explore the scientific outbreak that, beginning with the House of Wisdom (Bayt al-Hikma) in Baghdad during the 11th century, led to the blooming of Cordoba, Denia, Toledo and Zaragoza, laying the foundations for the European Renaissance.

“Through its panels, models and media, “Gardens of al-Andalus” shows the Hispano-Muslim garden as a place of encounter, a place for leisure and reflection, and a cultural melting pot where Oriental botanic species were acclimatized for scientific and decorative purposes.

This exhibition shows one of the most productive times in the history of architecture: the period of al-Andalus, which covers the eight centuries of Muslim rule in the Iberian Peninsula. From this period, we have inherited monuments of global value, such as the Aljama mosque, in Córdoba, or the Alhambra of Granada.

“Qalam, words of art” is a tribute to the cultural, scientific and spiritual blooming of Islam in the West through its written works. It reflects the importance of words, knowledge and the transmission of Islam, as well as the degree of perfection that the art of the book has achieved throughout History.

The emergence of al-Andalus wouldn’t have been possible without the presence of water and its wise management. Its value allowed for farmers, stockbreeders, artisans, builders and gardeners to work, for centuries, on its equitable preservation, as a source of life and a heritage of humanity.

The smell is one of the most rooted senses in the human being. In this exhibition, and through different smells, we approach the every day life of al-Andalus. It is a virtual trip through that period’s mosques, souks, houses and gardens, and a tour through the spices’ medieval routes.
